Review: Scribbles of the Mind

Scribbles of the Mind by Elie N. Azar is a collection of sentimental poems, some moving and insightful with evocative and haunting imagery, and some repetitive with laboured metaphors.

Buy or Pass Recommendation: Tentative buy. Not all poems will speak to you, but some will.

The Good

I liked Scribbles of the Mind; the shorter poems for the most part. There are some one-sentence and two-sentence verses that are absolutely gorgeous. Here’s one I am quoting with the poet’s permission:

A Framed Ocean

Just like the waves of the ocean,
You took me into your arms
and laid me back in pieces on the edge of your shore.

I loved the illustrations. Elias Mitri has created beautiful works of art and delicately woven them into the fabric of each poem.

The Bad

The longer poems didn’t work for me. Azar’s poesy lends itself better to shorter compositions, in my opinion.

The Nit-picks

None.

A decent collection of emotive poems. I recommend it those who enjoy free verse poetry.
